Friday Pick: LonelyGirl15 Finale

Starting at 8am PST, LonelyGirl15 wraps up Season One with “12 in 12″ - an MTV-style marathon of new webisodes released every hour. MySpace has secured the rights to debut the episodes.

In case you aren’t familiar with the behind-the-scenes details of distributing online video’s most famous faux-reality series, Liz Gannes at NewTeeVee walks you through.

Google Slammed for Copyrights in Japan

“There is no middle ground. We demand that all copyrighted material be removed immediately,” said composer Hideki Matsutake at a press conference addressing YouTube’s content.

Speaking on behalf of a group of television, music and movie companies, Matsutake said, “YouTube has to stop how it runs its site and get rid of the illegal clips. We want them to reset the service.”

PermissionTV Launches Sex (Ed) Channel

Down boys, down. We’re not talking about porn.

Video publishing platform PermissionTV has launched a new channel focused on empowering young adults to make informed decisions about their sexuality and intimate relationships.

Amber Madison, the 23 year old author of “Hooking Up: A Girl’s All-Out Guide to Sex & Sexuality,” brings frank talk to her peers about sensitive issues including: “How to Tell Your Parents You’re Ready,” “When Sex Is a Bad Idea,” “How to Use a Condom Correctly,” “HPV Vaccine,” “Masturbation,” and “Signs of an Abusive Relationship.”

Canaan Invests in The People

Canaan Partners, a $2.4 billion global venture capital firm, has invested $10 million in Associated Content, an online publisher dubbed “The People’s Media Company”. The new funding will enable Associated Content to continue building a network of content producers and to enhance its publishing and distribution platforms.

Warren Lee from Canaan Partners has joined Associated Content’s board of directors.

This is the second funding announcement for a citizen journalism site this week following the announcement made by NowPublic on Monday. Clearly VCs see money to be made here, but can these companies be independently…
