DCIA Announces P2P Upfront

The Distributed Computing Industry Association (DCIA) today announced it will hold the first ever P2P Advertising Upfront this year with day-long conferences at the Princeton Club in New York and at this year’s Digital Hollywood Fall conference in LA.

The upfront is part of an effort to “jump-start a monetization initiative for P2P and social networking traffic and a conversion of this consumer-based distribution channel into a mainstream ad-supported medium.”

A New Genre of Programming

Online video, in addition to changing the way media is produced has resulted in entirely new genres of programming. Whereas most online video began as short form one-off videos, new media producers are increasingly creating interactive serials to engage and grow audiences.

The originator of this genre is the lonelygirl15 series. Through interesting content and viral marketing producers were able to build a complex interactive series from a starting point of simple low-budget video diaries. Nothing like this was ever done before because the medium for it never existed.
