OPA: 1/2 of User Time Devoted to Content

A study released today by the Online Publishers Association shows that users are increasingly consuming content more than any other online activity. While this is a prime example of a study that should be taken with a grain of salt, a 37% increase in time spent on content over the past 4 years is impressive.

The OPA homepage includes updated Internet Activity Index numbers through June (below), placing the most recent number at 49.6% of time spent.

VideoEgg: Facebook

According to TechCruch, VideoEgg has created EAP for Facebook, bringing expandable banners to Facebook applications.

For anyone familiar with rich media, the demo will be a bit of a letdown, looking no different than any other video-enabled Flash banner from Eyewonder, Eyeblaster, Pointroll and others.

Ben adds: VideoEgg has been good at adapting their ad offerings to suit the unique environments of various social networks and will likely adjust the format to optimize EggNetwork ads on facebook over time.

Heavy.com Launches Beta Ad Network

Heavy.com, providers of such online video hit series as “Superficial Friends” and “Behind the Music that Sucks” has today announced the public beta of its own ad network, The Husky Network.

According to the press release, Heavy will be wrapping video players, such as YouTube or Revver, with branded skins and selling them on a CPM basis. According to the screenshot below, Heavy will be dropping a big static pop up on your page with a hole in the middle for the video to play in.
