I attended the Bug Labs get together last night and while in its current state their “open source hardware device” isn’t much to look at, the potential of what they’re offering is pretty exciting.

The ‘BUG’ consists of several connected circuit boards - a motherboard with a CPU and WiFi capability, one board with a motion detector and one with a camera. Add-on modules will include things like a keyboard, monitor, GPS and whatever else a developer would want to add to a specialized device.

Last week, ESPN announced a major new initiative for their 360 online video platform. After languishing the past few years under a nontraditional walled ISP-licensed model, the network will launch a redesigned 360 next month with plans to offer 2,000 live events, ten times the number offered in 2006.

The redesigned video portal will offer what ESPN calls “the first full-time, multisport, live, sports-driven broadband channel.” While the network did not expand on exactly what this will entail, it sounds like a departure from the traditional event-only online video channel by integrating live…

There are several tech-related events going on in New York tonight:

• Bug Labs will show off their open-source gadget creator. After some initial buzz following a dinner with bloggers in SF, they will (hopefully) display the technology tonight at Punch in New York, 913 Broadway, 6-8pm.
• The New York Dot Com Hatchery will meetup in the offices of Merill Lynch at 6:30 .
• The New York P2P Meetup will take place at Manatt in Times Square at 7:00PM.
• The Web 2.0 / New York Web Entrepeneurs meetup will take place at Gallery Bar downtown at 120 Orchard St at 6:00 PM.
