Google releases Picasa 2.7 for Linux

Google has released Picasa version 2.7 for Linux, which promises many of the same improvements of the PC version, including (drum roll, please) uploading and downloading from Picasa Web Albums.

Further improvements include:

  • Folder hierarchy views: Browse explorer-style through your photos
  • Save edits to disk: Including batch saving
  • Improvements to importing: You can now import into an existing folder.
  • Better RAW support

Move Silverlight NBC Olympics =

At the MIX conference this afternoon, Perkins Miller of NBC demoed the Silverlight powered video platform for NBCOlympics.com. Duncan Riley liveblogging for TechCrunch called it “kickass,” and it deservedly got the largest ovation of the day.

YouTube Beginning To Up Video Quality

YouTube which announced plans to increase video quality at NewTeeVee Live in November has begun offering higher quality encoding for certain clips.

While this is clearly still in the testing stages and there hasn’t been an official announcement, the folks over at VideoHelp.com have figured out that adding &fmt=6 or &fmt=18 to the end of a video link returns a H.264 encoded clip…

Viddler Video Comments Released (and enabled here!)

I’ve been a fan of Viddler’s platform for a while, mainly for its simplicity and high quality encoding. I turned to Viddler for my personal online video player needs when Brightcove abandoned their personal services.
