UGC Ads Aren

Sometime during the 8 hours of pre-pre-red carpet coverage, check out the finalists of the Dove Body Wash Ad contest over on the Oscars site.

As anyone with a broadband connection knows by know, Dove’s “Real Women” video and following ad campaign has been nothing short of a spectacular success, and they’ve continued to find smart ways to keep the mojo flowing.

The five finalists’ videos are on the site, and you can vote for your favorite. Two will be chosen to be aired tonight, and Oscar viewers will be able…

Damnit.

This wasn’t even an online video story, except that MSNBC does a great job of making clips of stories, particularly their news shows, available.

I was catching up on my Sunday morning roundtable shows before the Oscars, and had to hear this??

I just watched the clip and decided to embed it here for the hell of it. Then Ralph Nader joining the race for president became an online video story. Guess how? The second time I watched the clip, I got the same 30-second pre-roll ad for Boeing. But Mr. Nader…

Google Slow Rolling Video Ads

Saul Hansell of the New York Times is reporting that Google has begun testing video ads on their search pages.

“The big insight of Google wasn’t text ads; it was that the ads should be conducive to the format. We were doing text-based search that was all textual. Visual ads don’t work in that format,” Marissa Mayer, Google’s vice president of search products and user experience told Saul in their interview.

“We don’t want all sorts of video and banner ads all over the site all the time,” Ms. Mayer said. “People who…

More V-day Themed Viral Videos

This one from YES Essentials, makers of anti-stain, anti-odor, and anti-static car seats. “Chocolate-Covered Proof,” arrived in our inbox right in time for Valentine’s Day, which was, of course, the idea.

For Sale: Revver (PS, its pretty cheap)

Who doesn’t love being right? Two weeks ago, we wrote that online video sharing platform Revver was looking at a fairly bleak and short future.

Our good friend Wendy Davis at MediaPost confirms today in her Just an Online Minute column that they are shopping themselves, and at quite a bargain.

According to Wendy….

The Los Angeles-based Revver is seeking between $300,000 and $500,000, as well as assumption of around $1 million in debt, CNET reports. Additionally, staff reportedly has shrunk to half of what it was in 2006.

As I’ve written extensively,…

Catch AdAge

AdAge’s Bob Garfield runs through the commercials he didn’t like.

He doesn’t like most of them. But I’m not sure I agree with his reasoning.

My quick thoughts:

Audi R8: Parody of Godfather scene where the director finds the horse head may have been the worst commercial of the Superbowl. Could have been for any product that people are supposed to feel passionately about.

Bridgestone Tires with the animals screaming being afraid of being run over was also funny. As was nearly running over Richard Simmons.

The Careerbuilder campaign was disturbing. That…
