Adobe makes Flash searchable, Flash designers rejoice

UPDATE: E.W. Scripps SEM Manager Paul Petersen weighs in on the SEO impact of Adobe and Google’s announcement.

Adobe’s Flash technology has long been the bane of efforts to create a Web site or application that can be indexed by Google, Yahoo! or other search engines. What it lacked in search engine optimization (SEO), Flash made up in offering designers an infinite playground for creating rich-media apps, games and video.

But what good is an application that users can’t find?

Yesterday, Adobe and the two search engine leaders came out with an answer: A…

Now that Microsoft’s out of picture, Yahoo! rebounds with Google

Yahoo! AdSense

Now that Yahoo! has finally decided things are really over with Microsoft, the company has found room in its heart for a new love: Google. The two companies today announced an advertising partnership that will basically place Google AdSense advertisements alongside Yahoo! search results.

The deal isn’t exactly comprehensive. It covers “some of” Yahoo!’s web properties, and the ads will only be displayed in the US and Canada. The agreement is non-exclusive, which means that Yahoo! may display its own ads or ads from other parties as well.

The possible partnership with Google would be part of a bid by Yahoo to forge a three-way deal where Yahoo would merge with Time Warner AOL in return for Time Warner taking a stake in Yahoo, sources had told Reuters last week.

The move by Yahoo to outsource web-search advertising to market…

Microsoft, News Corp plan joint Yahoo bid

Yahoo, which was widely believed to be running out of alternatives to accepting Microsoft’s takeover offer, has become a target of two warring camps of technology giants and their media allies, sources said on Wednesday.

News Corp is considering joining Microsoft in a bid for Yahoo which would bring in News Corp’s MySpace social networking-site and create a more formidable rival to internet juggernaut Google, newspaper reports said.

But Yahoo, which announced earlier on Wednesday that it plans to test Google search ads alongside Yahoo web-search services, is closing in on a…

Using images in SEO

Search engines, and Google in particular through its Universal Search initiative, are making great strides towards delivering multi-media search engine results. Images, audio, and video links are being sprinkled into certain types of searches. Actively using images as part of your overall optimization strategy can pay dividends.

The first step is to make certain that you use the…
